Anne McGurk is a New England based painter inspired by nature, the changeable and transformative quality of light and the surroundings she has come to love near the coast of Maine, where the horizon often meets lakes and sea. She also finds inspiration in the area's rich artistic heritage.
Anne engages with nature every day whether painting, or walking to observe and gather visual experiences that she will later use in artworks. Painting is a way of paying attention, a way of knowing a place and appreciating nature that both gives us refuge and sustains us with its resources.
She has shown her work in a number of venues nationally, including galleries in New England, the West, Washington DC and New York.
Anne received her formal art training at American University in Washington DC. She earned a BFA in painting and was awarded a Graduate Fellowship for her MFA, also in painting. She lives and maintains a studio in Down East Maine.
